I bought this for a four year old little girl. For the money it is durable and fun to use even for someone who is four!! She loves the doll to play with and will get better at using it for it’s intended purpose with practice!

The Charlie McCarthy Ventriloquist Doll is fine for a beginner. It is rather difficult to hold the string to make the mouth move while holding the doll in the upright position. Also, his legs twist as if they are sewn on crooked and his shoes won’t stay on. However, he is a LOT of fun to play and practice with.

Personally; I find it a tad bit creepy… But my sister is the one who bought it, and she’s pleased; her only complaint is how quickly his jacket seems to attract dog hair.

My husband mentioned having a Charlie McCarthy doll when he was a child (40 plus years ago) and how much fun he had with it. I chose this one for him as a gift not really expecting much for the price (as compared to the other more ‘deluxe’ models). I was extremely pleased with the quality of this one when it arrived, it appeared to be well made and worked smoothly. More importantly, my husband said that it just like the one he used to have. Maybe for the serious ventriloquist, a different model might be better but for the beginner or a nostalgic husband this doll was just right. Worth every penny.

I was hesitant to purchase this for my son because ventriloquist dummies usually creep me out, but Charlie isn’t creepy — in fact, he’s pretty cute. It’s not the highest quality product, and probably about $10-$20 more expensive than it should be, but overall, we’re pleased.

Wish I had paid more attention when purchasing. Looks good and seem well made, just has a pull string to move the mouth instead of your hand. It’s really complicated for my 10 year old daughter to try to do. I can barely get it to move…maybe we are doing it wrong…?

My 6 year son had been asking for a Ventriloquistβs doll for quite some time. However, when we received the Charlie McCarthy doll, he asked me return it because it was βtoo creepyβ. Iβm not sure what he expected. I thought the doll was cool! It looked well made too.
